For the convenience of our guests, we’ve thought through all the details so you can make the most of your snowshoe adventure.
BLUE TRAIL
THE VALLEY
The Valley Trail begins at the Penrose and winds through the scenic west end of the golf course valley. This gently rolling, beginner-friendly route follows the banks of Birch's Creek and Trout Creek, weaving through a peaceful landscape of mature pine and willow trees.
In its final stretch, snowshoers cross two charming bridges over Trout Creek before ascending the hill towards Social Thirty-One. Whether pausing for a visit at the restaurant or heading straight back to the Penrose, this point marks just 500 meters from the comfort of our suites.

GREEN TRAIL
the front nine
The Front Nine Trail begins at the Penrose, initially sharing the same scenic route through the west end of the golf course as the Valley Trail. Instead of turning toward Social Thirty-One at the midway point, this trail continues east, guiding adventures through a short wooded stretch before opening onto sweeping views of snow-covered fairways.
Snowshoers will pass behind the iconic #2 green, soaking in the quiet, winter beauty of the course, before following the tree-lined edge of hole #1 back toward the restaurant. Here, guests can choose to pause for a warm drink and a bite to eat, or continue the final 500 meters back to relaxation at the Penrose.
Offering a slightly longer, more expansive journey, the Front Nine Trail is perfect for those eager to explore more of the property while enjoying a peaceful, picturesque snowshoe outing.

RED TRAIL
AINSLIE'S VISTA
Ainslie's Vista Trail is the most expansive and elevated of our snowshoe routes. Like the Valley and the Front Nine trails, it begins at the Penrose and follows the scenic valley path to the west.
After the wooded section of the Front Nine Trail, snowshoers ascend a gentle, tree-lined fairway to the course's highest point. The trail loops around a serene pond with tall reeds and continues east to the first of two breathtaking vistas. Along the northern fairway edge, guests reach a small clearing with sweeping views of farmland below—a peaceful countryside pause.
The trail then turns west and south for a gradual descent, leading to the final and most stunning lookout: a panoramic view of the golf course valley, and its largest pond—among the best in St. Marys. From there, it wraps the large pond, follows Trout Creek, and crosses the signature black bridge into the lower course. Passing the iconic #2 green, it leads back to Social Thirty-One restaurant, where a well-deserved warm meal or drink awaits.
The route is perfect for those seeking a longer, more adventurous outing with rewarding vistas and a deeper exploration of our 150-acre property.
